Hey guys,

My computers been a mess a while now, the disc drive has been broken since I got it (may 09). I've lost windows vista, & atm I'm running Linux, Linux won't install so I run the live cd each day. I have windows XP, Vista & 7 on separate discs but none will install. I've tried formatting the hard drive, wiping the hard drive, I've done loads, my brother & my mate have even tried fixing it. Nothing works!! Does anyone know what I can do to fix my computer and get a windows OS back??

Thanks

Hmmm. When you run LiveCd, can you see the harddrives?

Brad, I can see the hard drives, but can't access them.

And Prateek, I always have it set to boot cd/dvd drive as I  always have to run from a disc now (the live cd)

In linux, install GDisk and repartion the HD to NTFS. Boot up the pc to install windows and you should be good to go.

Hmm, I'll see if I could try that, but gdisk thingy is .dmg, this is not a mac...

GDisk is not .dmg, I got it through the application center while running Linux, you should be able to as well.

Try resetting the bios to stock (pull the plug then take out the MB battery).  Might be a configuration problem with the hard drive.  You got the computer broken you say?  I would also check the jumpers on the hard drive to see if it's set in some kind of slave mode.  I'd also try the same but mirrored of what Norby said... get a new hard drive and run it with the 'broken' computer.  See if you can do an install and boot on there.
