Before going to my experience, I would like to share good response about European Universities which I got from my seniors who studied there
1) They offer specific course like Communication engineeing, wireless systems etc. So that you wont be studying other courses which were not of your interest. I mean, if you start with Electrical Engineering in first year you are forced to study other sub which may not be of your interest.
2)Profs have very good relation with Industry.
3) Mandatory internships in german Univs apart from thesis work provides a better exposure to industry
4) Affordable tuition fees in Germany and no tuition Fees in Finland.
In this I would like to write my experience when I am applying with german, sweden and finaland universities.
This is typically related to my field of interest : Communication Engineering
First of all related branches in BE who can apply to this course are
1)Electronics
2) Telecomm
3)Electrical
4) CS/IS
Prerequisites for applying (I will consolidate for all the three countries)
1) Preferably good grades in your undergrads. I think German univ have strict restriction of 75% unless you have very good profile and work experience.
2)TOEFL. German Univ have cut -offs like above 83.For Sweden Univs, Indian students no need to show any TOEFL scores (Just a letter from college stating your medium of teaching is English). For Finland univ, they usually mention above 90 is required. It is better to have scores above 100 out of 120.
3) Transcripts of BE from University
4)Each univ will have their own online application except Sweden (I will come to that later)
4) Degree certificate
5)Passport copy
6)GRE is not mandatory. If you have then submit the same, In case of tie you may get selected
My experience with Sweden Universities :
Sweden have pool application. In this you can apply to 4 univs in the priority order. If you get selected in your first priority then others will get cancelled automatically. SO finally you will get only one offewr out of 4.
Unfortunately, Sweden univs started very high tuition fees starting from Aug 2011. The entire course fees may come around 20L rs. They intially said they provide schloarships. But it was very limited 1 or 2 in a class. So they may increase the no. of schloarships in the coming year.
I applied to 4 univs in the priority order below
1) KTH - Very good reputation
2)Lund - Good research, Bluetooth was discovered here.
3)Chalmers - good, private
4)Linkoping - Good
Got through in KTH. Finally dropped because of high fees
Finland Univs :
They offer very specific course like wireless systems. Aalto and Oulu are good univs.
No tuition fees as of now.
German Univs :
See only entirely taught English course. All Tu9s are good. I applied RWTH Aachen and TUM. Got through in both. Finally decided to go to TUM.
They offer mandatory Internship in b/w the semesters.
Try to finish A1 German level that helps to communicate with the people there eventhough your course is in English.
Job Scenario : I am not yet experienced in this.
Let me know if you have any queries regd the above things which I shared.
