 OFFLINE | met·a·phor
[met-uh-fawr, -fer]
–noun
1. a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in “A mighty fortress is our god.”

Commonly confused/grouped with similies, and although very similar, metaphors are alot more versatile when it comes to being creative with your wordplay.. the main difference is that a similie directly relates two objects, while a metaphor only suggests a resemblance..
eg, to quote one of best wordplay artists in the game, crooked I.. "this song is a warzone and you listeners are in the crossfire"..
basically your just using specific words to suggest a meaning in the reader/listeners mind.. the line above is fairly self explainitory.. without actually explaining it obviously.. basically its just a technique to add a little creativity to your lyrics, same as similies, using creative wordplay to make your message come across in an original way.. |
