I played Final Fantasy XI for about 6 years. It was my first MMO, back in like, 2004ish. It was a complicated game, yet it's complication forced players to come up with complex solutions. Players had to understand the game and how it works, work in a party according to what they're fighting, blah blah blah. One thing they had that seemed to help out after a player capped out his character (keep in mind, I quit when they raised the level cap past 75) was a merit system.

After a player capped out at 75, they had the option to gain exp for a buff, in case they died and lost experience (since it was possible to de-level). On the other hand, there's the option that a player can merit. Instead of exp, you would earn merit exp (I can't remember what it was actually called). After earning so much merit exp, a player was granted a merit point. Merit points could be used on things such as attribute bonuses (strength, agility, etc etc.), to build up selected skills (like a Theive's Sneak Attack, a Paladin's guard skill, a Black Mage's ice potency, etc.) or to even earn new skills (like a Black Mage tier 2 ancient magic spell). It was very nifty.

However, so a player couldn't get too ubered up, they were limited to how many merit points could be spent. Each thing that could be merited was split into it's own category. Attributes were in their own group, as well as new skills and older skills already obtained that can only be powered up. Each category had it's own limit to how many merit points could be distributed into that category, and no category could have everything maxed out, which is where strategy plays it's part. Just as an example, a Black Mage mostly used ice attribute attacks, since ice was associated with elemental magic (or something like that). So a good BLM would max out ice potency, earn tier 2 for Freeze (a BLM ancient magic spell) and max it out and load up on Intelligence.

Here's a link better explaining it than I ever could:

To relate it to DMO, a player could possibly earn merit points that could be used to level up skills that they didn't have enough SP for, or to level up stats (similar to enchanting). Maybe there could also be some skills that are only obtainable through vigorous meriting. Who knows, it's only a suggestion, and it would give a player something to do who have a capped out digimon that they really enjoy playing with.

Give some Feedback, I'm curious as to what other players think about this, especially those who have multiple 65's, or one 65 that they are just plain and simply in love with.

I think that is a great idea. Especially considering that PvP will be coming later this year.
