Our Intake Team has deemed the term "Hot Mess" appropriate for some of the sweet animals in need at the shelter.  If "Hot Mess" was in the dictionary, Mozart's before picture would be the definition!  We're pretty sure his after picture is located under "Handsome".  If your looking for a purrfect Persian to add to your pack, Mozart might be the one!

Spring showers bring May flowers?  We are ready!  We have a lot of new rescues that we like to think are blossoming into perfect "flowers"!   Thank you to all of our dedicated fosters and volunteers that came out last weekend for our Starbucks and Dog Days event! Gorgeous weather is finally here and that means fun events, and shade under the tents!

10 DAY LARGE DOG
TEMP FOSTERS NEEDED!

We are in desperate need of fosters willing to open up their home for a short 10 day healing period after animals coming into our system are spayed/neutered.  Boarding facilities will not accept animals that have just been spayed or neutered.

This is a major hiccup and is preventing us from pulling animals that are in grave danger.
Please email our [EMAIL=foster@pawsinthecity.org]foster team if you can help!

PAWSITIVELY AWESOME!
We're adopted!

Dogs:

Hardy

Ryder

Riley

Rudy

Vynus

Winnie

Happy Tails:
Chance!
Chance is a sweet little boy we pulled from DAS.  He was a lover from the get-go! His new family responded to a plea for foster.  They fell in love and "ta da" - a forever family

It has been about 2 months since we adopted Chance, and he has been such a blessing.  He has two fur brothers, Charlie and Harry, and they have all become buddies.  His favorite things to do are snuggle, sun bathe in the back yard, and he loves toys that squeak!  He is such a goofy little cuddle bug and we feel so lucky that he is part of our family!

URGENT NEED FOR FOSTER  HOME!!

Tess is a 2 year old Dobe mix who was a HW + VSP at DAS that we pulled on her due out day.  She was treated for Heartworms but now has no calm place to recover in!  Tess is dog friendly and appears to be housebroken.  She is kid friendly and does NOT love kitties!  She needs to be on strict crate/bed rest for 4 weeks with low activity.  A home with no dogs or really calm dog(s) would be ideal for Tess.  She needs foster IMMEDIATELY so please contact us if you can help
tephanie@pawsinthecity.org">Can Tess stay temporarily?

I NEED A FOSTER HOME!!

Mercy is a playful two-month-old Border Collie/mix pup who would love to be invited to a hospitable, and loving home. Mercy is very sweet and playful. She enjoys running around with other dogs, and although she hasn't been around young children and cats yet, we suspect she would do well with them, too.

Mercy is in IMMEDIATE need of foster, so please consider opening your home if you can foster this adorable little girl!

I NEED A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!

Parker is a 40 lb love bug who just wants somebody to love.  He's a 1 1/2 year old Australian Cattle Dog/Heeler mix who is dog friendly and would thrive in a foster home over boarding.

[EMAIL=stephanie@pawsinthecity.org]Have a place for Parker?

I NEED A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!

Jezzabelle is a pretty one-year-old black and tan Shepherd mix who needs a foster home.  She is dog friendly and only about 30 lbs.  She needs some manners and she'll be the perfect sidekick!  Jezzabelle has some chemical burn or road rash on her hind quarter (POOR GIRL) but she's healing day by day and no special care is required.

I NEED A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!

A small guy with a big heart, Scooter is in need of a permanent foster. He needs someone willing to be consistent and strong to reinforce his boot camp training. He is about 2 and a half years old and is dog and people-friendly.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Event Set-Up Volunteers:
There's a lot of equipment that goes into setting up for PITC adoption event, and it all needs to be transported from storage to the event location and back again. Supervolunteer Mark Verma has been doing all the "heavy lifting" on this job by himself, and he needs a sidekick or two who can carry some of the load. If you have some time to spare a couple of days out of the month as well as a truck or SUV, let us know! The kind of equipment we're talking about includes crates, the portable tent, a couple of T-shirt boxes, etc. Nothing too heavy or daunting, but it does require a vehicle with some cargo space. Let [EMAIL=laura@pawsinthecity.org]Laura know if you're up for this job.

Adoption Screeners & Adoption Close Out:
We are in need of volunteers to do vet checks and phone interviews with adoption applicants.  This person needs a phone.  We need volunteers to close out and finalize adoptions.  This person needs a computer. Email Laura for

Vet Relations Coordinator:
  • Make vet appointments for all dogs entering the PITC program .
  • Follow up on each dog's progress/needs throughout the intake process.
  • Coordinate with fosters to make vet appointments for PITC dogs that need medical treatment
  • Communicate requests for vet appointment transport to the transport team.
  • Requires availability during daytime work hours via email and phone.
Please contact  [EMAIL=laura@pawsinthecity.org]Laura if this is your cup of tea!

Pet Profile Coordinator:
This volunteer would be responsible for ensuring all pets in our organization had a profile and temporary photos (photos provided by foster until professional ones can be taken).  This would involve reaching out to the foster parent for the pet after the pet is placed in the home to gather helpful adoption information for writing a profile and better photos of the animal.  The volunteer would edit photos sent in (basic cropping/enhance photo) if needed and post to our databases. This volunteer would distribute the information needed to write the profile for that animal to one of the profile writers currently on hand or the foster may write the profile themselves.  Volunteer would upload the profiles to our databases once received (we ask for 24 hour turnaround on profiles).  Profiles may need to be edited after the foster learns more about the animal so the Coordinator would be responsible for reading through the profiles to see if there could possibly be updates. This volunteer would continue to recruit those who like creative writing to ensure no one volunteer has too much work writing profiles.  This volunteer may write a few profiles him/herself as well.

Newsletter Editor:
Do you like editing photos?  Do you like to write creatively?  Are you in the know or able to communicate with those that are?  Then we could use your help with our Newsletter!  We use Constant Contact and putting together the newsletter could easily be a 2 person job!  We currently need a second person to help edit and maybe do a little design so we captivate readers and ultimately save lives with our Newsletter.

Videography Volunteers:
Videos are very helpful in getting our dogs adopted.  The coordinator will create and build a network of videographers who will produce video features on our adoptable pets.  S/he will assign videographers to dogs and introduce the videographer to the foster to coordinate schedules, etc.   Right now, we have tons of photos and stories and currently need volunteers to create the videos. It may be necessary to meet up with a dog to gather some video footage. The Coordinator would ideally do video occasionally, but his or her main role would be to make sure all of our dogs get videos.

Please contact [EMAIL=laura@pawsinthecity.org]Human Resources if you are interested in the above positions.  You may also view our website to learn about more volunteer opportunities or sign up there.
