KANDAHAR, Afghanistan – The massive security breach that allowed the Taliban to spirit more than 480 Afghan inmates out southern Afghanistan's largest prison must have involved inside collaborators, the Justice Ministry said Tuesday, as security forces worked to recapture the escaped convicts.

This is just pathetic.  See why I think they are corrupt in these Muslim countries?  We fight and die and try to help those folks out (because they asked), and the people elected are corrupt, and the people the citizens rely on to protect them are corrupt as well.  Half are probably former Taliban members themselves!

I'm an independent conservative and even I can see we're just spinning our wheels over there.

This is a huge cluster-f*ck, Dennis. I wonder if we should have bothered with them when they were fighting the Russians.  Because of the terrain, the various "tribes", etc, I don't think there is any "winning" there.

BTW, I don't think the Afghani's asked for any help.  We went there "looking" for Osama Bin Laden.  I must confess, I LOATHE the way the women are treated in muslim countries, but it is not up to me to save them.  They will have to do it for themselves.

Yeah,  they didnt really want us to come over and bomb their country to smithereens, but the Taliban was in charge at the time, so we didnt bother to ask if we could kill em.  Lol!  However, I'm almost positive that many in the new govt does want us to help em.  I know for a fact Pres. Karzide (sp?) has said he didnt want us to just up and leave them.

Unfortunately the man is a crook.  And I think perhaps a lot of govt officials there are crooks and are dealing with the Taliban and possibly Al Qaida on the sly.  And I'll be honest, I'm leaning a bit to the left on this war thing.  Not yet a liberal, but many of those folks over there hate our guts.  they want to use our might for personal gain but stab us in the back at the first opportunity.  No use in our kids fighting and dying over there in the Godforsaken cesspool if they wont at least try to help themselves.  Right?

we're just completely circle jerking over there. afghanistan is the quagmire and the replaying of vietnam that the left claimed iraq was all those years. i just don't see a positive outcome anywhere in all this. if we stay, we continue to waste time, money, and lives, but if we leave, that'll bring about a good deal of pain as well. and now isn't the time to take petraeus off the job so he can go and run the CIA imo.
