| My Dr. found high PTH (86.9) by accident and sent me to an Endocrinologist. She did more tests and found my Vitamin D was low (25). But my calcium is normal (9.3) and my PTH had raised to 99.2 by the time I saw her. 24 hour urine is normal and DEXA scan is normal as well. So she put me on 2000 units of vitamin D per day to "lower the PTH". 2 months later the D was up to 38. PTH was also up to 99.9. September, yesterday, Vitamin D 33, PTH 92.4. I think I am starting to see a correlation here! My Endo also says she thinks I have "Incipient Hyperparathyroidism". I asked if I were to have surgery today would they find a bad parathyroid. Yes, she replied, most likely, as she put me on 3000 units of vitamin D per day. Let's watch until we see some symptoms and see if the blood work confirms this... for a few YEARS! Well, I don't need to tell you that after reading Dr. Norman's blog I will NOT be taking vitamin D any longer until I figure out what my next move is. (meaning, I think I need to contact Dr. Norman). Just not sure with the totally normal calcium if that is what I need to do?? |
