OFFLINE | My first 1991 Dodge Stealth Twin Turbo had a K&N Open Element Air Filter attached to the stock MAF/intake. It is already much like a short ram intake design so there is a really great performance sound with the OEM stock active exhaust system but has very noticable performance increases in combination with an aftermarket 3" twin turbo back exhaust setup.
Although the open element air filter must ultimately be lacking some additional performance gain and possible engine lifespan compared to a true Cold Air Intake due to the fact that it always inhales hot engine air temperatures.
If you like performance sound, slight hp gain, throttle response and mpg savings I would recommend an open element air filter and short ram or cold air intake.
If your concerned about your engines longevity, this might not be the solution for you unless your able to add a small engine bay to filter sealed cover with a funnel directing outside air to the filter much like a stock like but custom intake setup..
