OFFLINE | You was just hit by a massive thunderstorm that has knocked out the transformers to your neighborhood. The utility company has told you it will be a week before you have power back. What are you to do to prepare meals for your family? You can't use your blender to mix batter, or your food processor to chop, grind, shred or use any of the other 50 attachments you have for the processor. You can't even use your electric can opener. I guess it is time to eat out every night, right? Not if you have on hand the manual tools that will allow you to do the same as your electric appliances.
The following is a short list that can be used to either process ahead your garden or bulk purchased foods. As well as being used to prepare meals in times with no electricity:
Manual Food Mills
Food Chopper
Garlic Press
Herb Grinder (or morter and pestel)
Food Press
Apple/Potato Peeler Slicer
Egg Beater
Juicer
Hand Crank Blender
Manual can opener
Bottle/jar opener
A Manual Grain Grinder can be used for various grains or nuts (wheat, corn, hazelnut, walnut, ect…) for use in everything from breakfast to deserts.
What would you add to this list. |
