Surely Italy (in)justice system needs a lot of help.   Judges in Italy are politically involved so verdicts are different if you are on the same side of the judge or the opposite political party.  This mostly for monetary disputes. For crimes committed  the penalties are usually very soft  compared penalties in other countries ( like here in the US penalties are quite harsh by comparison ) - Even if you kill somebody nobody does life in prison anymore.  Usually after a few years you get released from prison with one reason or another

And it appears that Renzi has his work cut out for him in trying to introduces reforms! The English phrase would be "the foxes are guarding the hen house"!
