Kirk Hammett of Metallica said in an interview that the reason guitar companies, like Gibson, are going under is because the guitar (including electric guitar) has become a passe instrument, much like the violin or the sousaphone.

Others believe it's because guitars are not the easiest instrument to master, and most people are making music by piecing sound clip loops together instead of actually taking time to practice and play.

Will the guitar be phased out by the computer?
