Hope you all don't mind but as a means of encouragement to all the lurkers and would be posters out there, I figured I'd start a topic for everyone to break the ice a bit and just say 'hi' and maybe give a little background about your musical and other interests. I'll start..

I'm Rob and in case anyone isn't aware by now, I'm into all facets of metal aside from power. I also write for DiabolicalConquest.com which is a burgeoning webzine of sorts (that is when I'm not so damn lazy).

Also feel free to utilize this thread the same way the 'converse here' thread is on the myspace metal forum. That is, just feel free to talk about whatever as long as it doesn't involve posting furry cutesy animal pics (god, I hate that crap!).. anyway.. welcome ALL!

I like black metal, doom, melodeath, and neofolk primarily, though I like all types of metal as long as I like it (odd how that works).

I'm James, I don't have much of a life outside of listening to/making music, playing games (mostly N64, and other old systems, not because I'm biased towards them, but because I don't have the money or interest to keep up with new games at the moment.)

My favorite Metal subgenres are as follows:
Death Metal (more particularly Old School stuff, but I can usually get down with anything that isn't overly cheesy or technical just for the sake of being technical)
Most types of Doom/Sludge/Stoner Metal
Avant-Garde/Experimental stuff that isn't boring or pretentious as ****
I LOOOOOOOVE late 60s-70s Proto-Metal.
Post-Metal
I'm not much of a Black Metal fan, but I love how seamlessly it can blend with other styles of music, I love when Black Metal is done creatively.

My non-Metal interests are:

Powerviolence
Surf Rock
Post-Rock
Tuvan/Mongolian Throat Singing
Japanese Folk Music (particularly Tsugaru Shamisen)
