OFFLINE | Today I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit two amazing examples of permaculture in the central North Island - one was Kai and Heidi Hagener's place near Ohakune - and the other was Awhi Farm at Turangi ( http://ecoshow.co.nz/Awhi-Farm/) where Bryan Innes showed us around.
As I am also in a place with a cooler climate and fairly hard winter frosts (Taihape), it was great to see ways of overcoming the cold temeratures by creating micro-climates and using protected growing spaces.
Kai and Heidi's house was also a magical place - I could have spent all day just taking it in!
Both properties and the people who care for them are truly inspirational. If you get the chance to visit, I would encourage you to do so. |
