OFFLINE | I've noticed that in the case of most illnesses/injuries, families are finding out by mention in a letter or if the platoon gets a call. What sort of injury would warrant a call home? I just started imagining my husband laid up in the hospital with a broken something or other, and am hoping that I can fall back on "no news is good news" and expect that wouldn't happen without me knowing about it. How serious would it have to be before a direct notification? |

OFFLINE | Basically the only time you would be notified of an injury BY the Army is if it is a life threatening situation.
These guys get banged up, training isn't easy, somebody may occasionally have two left feet, trip and injure himself, undiagnosed injuries come to the surface, random things like shin splints, twisted ankles, busted noses come up.
I can assure you that while you may not be notified, they are sent immediately to a medic/the hospital and it is then determined if they need to be under a doctor's care. They do take care of them and then it is up to your recruit to let you know what is going on if he is injured.
So yes, usually the no news is good news theory works. |

OFFLINE | When my brother was in the Army he was sent to Panama right after Airborne school. He started haveing seizures after hitting his head while jumping out of the plane. My parents were not notified by the Army until one day he had been seizing for 10 hours and broken through the restraints holding him down. (restraints to keep him from being injured) At that point they didn't know if he would make it and the Red Cross contacted my parents. However, he recieved EXCELLENT care then and still does as he was medically dischared. My son #409 said he has scrapes, bruises and bumps all over his body right now. And every bone in his body aches. It's hard for a mom to hear but it makes them strong.
