The way I see it is that it is like an endless cycle. People in this country haven't had to fight for something for a long time and they're getting spoiled or even anxious for some action or change because life can be boring. Society begins to downgrade until there is a war. The best time of a society I think is the first decade or two right after a war. When everyone is done fighting and back to working hard for themselves and making themselves happy. As time goes on this begins to change of course and the newer generations get bored and spoiled starting it all over again. That is one theory.

According to a Pew Poll 78.4% of Americans identify themselves as Christian.  Unless, of course, you want to argue that the remaining 21.6% of Americans are the ones that dictate culture, but you'd have a hard time defending that assertion.

Heh.  Bryant, i promise I'm not trying to pick on ya.  But the truth is, that if you were a Christian you would understand that a lot of folks claim to be Christian...but do so only because they went to a church at some point, or may have been baptized as an infant, or maybe claim to be Christian because they are white / Anglo or something like that.

There's a whole lot more to it than that however.  None of the above makes us a Christian.

Secular humanism, has crept into most aspects of our society including media.  A lot of Christians watch shows liike 'Family Guy'.  And its a funny show.  The creator however is an admitted militant athiest who uses every opportunity to ridicule Judaism and Christianity.  About every 3rd episode does that.

Here's a list of just some of the notable humanists in our history:

    Steve Allen
    Isaac Asimov
    Kevin Baldeosingh
    Jeremy Bentham
    Steve Benson
    Albert Camus
    Noam Chomsky
    Sir Arthur C. Clarke
    Aaron Copland
    Auguste Comte
    Brian Cox
    Richard Dawkins
    Daniel Dennett
    Roger Ebert
    Umberto Eco
    Sanal Edamaruku
    Albert Einstein
    Friedrich Engels
    Scott Fellows
    Tom Flynn,
    E. M. Forster
    Stephen Fry
    Daniel Handler
    Sam Harris
    Hubert Harrison
    Andreas Heldal-Lund
    Nat Hentoff
    Christopher Hitchens
    Julian Huxley
    Robert G. Ingersoll
    Penn Jillette
    Paul Kurtz
    Corliss Lamont
    John Lennon
    Bill Maher
    Karl Marx
    Terence McKenna
    Taslima Nasrin
    Kathleen Nott
    Gary Numan
    Linus Pauling
    Neil Peart
    Steven Pinker
    Terry Pratchett
    Philip Pullman
    James Randi
    Winwood Reade
    Gene Roddenberry Star Trek
    Salman Rushdie
    Bertrand Russell
    Carl Sagan
    Charles M. Schulz
    Michael Shermer
    Peter Singer
    Linda Smith
    Jon Stewart
    Rodrigue Tremblay
    Neil DeGrasse Tyson
    Björn Ulvaeus
    Kurt Vonnegut
    Ibn Warraq
    Roger Waters
    James D. Watson
    Joss Whedon
    E. O. Wilson
    Thom Yorke
    Frank Zappa
    Sibnarayan Ray
    Amlan Datta

Note how many are in the entertainment industry...tv execs, musicians, writers, entertainers.  Some were very very influential people in our media and this stuff has crept into our homes.  Their views influence the masses.

These people argue that if we dont like their product, change the channel or just dont buy it.  But often people dont realize who is behind the shows and songs and articles and novels until you sit them down and show them item by item what they are really saying.

Some are/were a lot more subtle than others.  Clearly Bill Maher stands out as a bonifide athiest / secular humanist, whatever.  But John Lennon's views were pretty disguised t first...at least until his hit 'Imagine" went to the top of the charts.

Stephen Fry is hilarious.  But tons of people probably dont even realize what his beliefs are.  His work is funny, to be sure, and I am a fan...but some of it really does promote the gay agenda (which is to normalize the idea of homosexuality).

Millions of people (both Christian and non christian) are fans of the Star Trek series. Myself included.   But I can see how some of his stories about human achievement and equality...while on the surface a great idea, can also be seen as not needing a God to lean on.  In fact, if I recall correctly, he has authored or produced stories where the villains were religious.  Seen as corrupt, or sometimes just poor simpletons clinging to the hope that their 'god' will save them, when in actuality they should have relied on the Federation.

Stuff like that is subtle and creeps its way into the minds of the masses via tv.

Lets try this from a different direction.  Why would secular humanism be more welcoming to someone who violated another's right to life than your "true Christians?"

Ohhhh.....I wanna see where this goes.

One of my main complaints about religion is the belief, by those of faith, that one must have religion in his/her life in order to have a sense of morals.

This is something that I have always been trying to say. I never believed anyone needed religion to be a moral person. Although I think religion can be helpful in getting morals, but not necessary. I really don't think Pat Tillman is being punished for being an atheist after all he sacrificed.
