OFFLINE | okay, who are the dumbasses that wrote the laws regarding bicycles? all my life, bicycles were ridden on the sidewalk. that's just the place for people with non-motored vehicles. but now, it's been decided all over the place, that it's too dangerous to have people riding bikes where other people are walking, and that the bikes now need to obey the same rules of the road as cars do, in other words, riding in the middle of the damn street, holding up traffic. i ask you, what's more dangerous. a pedestrian getting hit by a bike, or a cyclist being hit by a car (which i saw happen yesterday!)? and you know what, if a cyclist does hit a pedestrian, and there are injuries, let the courts handle it! imo, if cyclists can't go within 5 miles of the speed limit, they don't need to be in the god damn road! this just seems like more liberal madness to me. i don't get it. i guess they want our streets looking like beijing traffic from the 70s. |

c'mon smartass! of course we have bicycle lanes, but in many places, at least around here, there's no room for them. i dunno, we just have a CRAP LOAD of bicyclists around here. a LOT. there must be a bicycle race here once a week. and they ride in packs, clogging up the streets, and pissing people off, like me. and then you have those weird bikes where you lay down, and they're like twice the width of a regular bicycle; it's just madness here with the bikes.
oh, and on the bike lanes, every time there's a turn lane that opens up, the bike lane crosses over it, so you have to be real freaking careful not to hit people. i mean, i get it if it's a big city and the sidewalks are all clogged with people, but aside from the old st. augustine area, the sidewalks just aren't that busy. |

OFFLINE | When I ride my bike around I either stay in the bike lane (if there is one) or on the sidewalk. I've seen other people ride in the main lane, and I think they're jerks. The worst is when you are on a rural mountain road and some jerk on a bike doing 10-15 mph won't pull onto the pullouts and you cant pass! As for when the bike lane and turn lane merge, the bicyclist has right of way. In some intersections they keep the two separate (they still cross, but at least the bike doesn't block the turn lane), however most of the time they have to tolerate each other. |

OFFLINE | One of the problems is that a lot of cyclists believe that (a) they're not pedestrians so the rules of the road for pedestrians don't apply to them and (b) they're not cars so the rules of the road for cars don't apply to them. I've been nearly knocked over more times by cyclists breaking red lights than by cars (and that's saying a lot seeing the muppets that drive around dublin city center), and each time they were swearing at me like it was my fault I was stupid enough to want to cross the road when the green man was flashing. |
