remember a while back when i posted about the overarching theme behind the way the democrats and especially obama have conducted business? how everything is a crisis, and we have to act now to avoid a tragedy. well i think that's behind the timing in killing obl.

think about the budget deal. months and months went by without mention of a budget, while the media was focused on japan and libya. then, with like a week's notice, the budget battle began, and we had to work fast to avert the dreaded government shutdown, right?

well with the world now focused on obl's killing, what aren't we talking about? the debt ceiling deadline coming up next week. again, we're following the same mold. this is likely the reason that we're getting differing stories out of the admin, and revisions, and a delay on the decision of whether or not to show the photos. it keeps the media's focus away from other issues. this is likely also the reason for obama's ground zero gathering coming up soon. just keep the media focused on the obl story.

then next week, you watch. we will be hearing the same crazed sense of urgency coming out of capital hill that we've heard with tarp, the stimulus, and the budget battle. we have to rush to fix this, or....else... just as libya served to distract from the budget debate. just as the birth cert was dusted off and presented from out of nowhere. hell, the birth cert served as a distraction for all of last week, and now obl's death has done the same this week.

but there's no real sense of urgency to act on anything, until the last minute. no one is getting out in front of issues, and when they do, they're demagogued off the scene. in other words, i think a lot of the real crises are being overlooked, in favor of these "crises of the day" scenarios. our focus is being darted around all over the place, to the point where we don't know what's coming next.

meanwhile our country has changed so much, that it wouldn't be recognizable to someone from 10 years ago. the media is being played, and in many instances is a willing partner, and we're all having the wool pulled over our eyes. both by establishment democrats, and establishment republicans.

I still like the quote from Henry Kissinger:

"There cannot be a crisis next week. My schedule is already full."

I have a copy of that posted up on the cubicle  wall beside my desk at work:-)

They're giving the media what they want.  Sad, because what most of us want is simply a competent legislature that is capable of doing such basic things as passing an annual budget without making it sound like the world is going to end.  I understand that there is controversy and disagreement, however these can be resolved without acting like a civil war is going to break out!

and i have to say, the republicans are still playing right into it. not only did trump use the birther conspiracy to propel himself into the political limelight, but he gave obama the perfect opportunity to waste time and attention, and present the long form, as he had planned all along. meanwhile, where are the elected republicans screaming at the top of their lungs about the debt ceiling issue? they're silent. so when the instant hysteria sinks in, they'll be playing defensively AGAIN!

Civility doesn't sell as well as controversy and disagreement.
