Shawn's post about retro computers got me thinking of all the computers I've had.....

Starting with that little Vic 20.... I believe I'm on 11.... the last 4 being laptops.

And that's not counting the work computers I've had....

Geez.  I don't even know ... 15-20.

At one time, I had a closet full of old computers, printers, and scanners.

I really liked my old scanner. But one thing I disliked about scanners over time were their software. I thought the earlier software was great and quite user friendly, but in time their functionality got rather annoying.

I used to sell stuff on eBay a long time ago. On the hardware & software I had, you could preview one item once, and if each item scanned afterwards was the same dimensions, you didn't have to re-preview, just put the item on the scanner bed and click the button onscreen. With all the software I've seen since, you have to preview each item before scanning and that really increased the time required to create eBay auctions :/

And now, there are 3 in 1 Printer, Scanner, Copiers, and if, for example, one ink cartridge goes bad or empty, then the scanning function isn't available. That really irritates me :/

I've spent a lot of money on scanners over the years though. I remember my first 256 Gray Scale Hand Held Logitec, I really loved it. But I wanted to scan in color, so I bought this apparatus where you scanned an item three times, each time using a different color filter in the apparatus, and the software stitched all three images together into 1 color image. That wasn't bad, but very time consuming. That particular scanner, I think, was over $400, and the color apparatus maybe $120. And then a few years later, I purchased the same style hand held 256 Color Scanner by Logitec, and I think I paid about $250, but I LOVED it.

When the flat-bed scanners came out, they seemed to have larger scan beds than later models had. That was a bit of a problem for me when scanning early LIFE and Saturday Evening Post magazines for eBay.

Anywho, about 2 years ago or so, I got tired of collecting up so much hardware that I ended up putting a bunch of it to the curb. I hated to see it all go, but I needed to thin out in my house for a bit. Now, I think I have almost everything position right in a large computer station I build in 07. This was a LOT of fun to build, bit it's gotten way more cluttered since

wow, I've gone through a lot of printers.... currently I have 4! One at the cabin, one at Ralph's one that is going to my daughter and one (my favorite) a portable printer that I can take on the road....   all HPs.

My first was an Okidata.... cost me a bundle, but man was it a workhorse!

Gee, probably 15-20 as well.  My first was an Apple MacIntosh in 1984, and my most recent is a Toshiba Satellite laptop.  Since I've put two kids  through college and have one in college, I've certainly purchased more than I've "owned."
