I tend to rely on old fashioned maps, Bing Maps, and GPS altogether, and I never take a long trip without first researching the routes thoroughly, so I haven't had any problems yet.

A lot of thngs have gotten me into trouble. GPS wasn't one of them. But that may be due to the fact that I don't have one.

I have an old Atlas.  It rides with me everywhere I go.

Here too, plus we pick up state maps for free at the info centers at state borders. If I'm looking for a certain street, I usually have a look at Google Maps before I leave.

I love my GPS.  I don't trust it 100% or I'd probably end up in a lake somewhere... but it will tell me my estimated time of arrival to my chosen destination and how fast I'm going (who has time to look at the speedometer???) and other cool things.  Plus it talks to me when no one else will.

I love messing with my GPS.. it tells me a route and then I do it differently and wait to see how long it takes the GPS to catch up to where I actually am and correct itself!  Simple pleasures for simple minds, heh

After saying "Recalculating" several times in a row, I swear it wants to start cussing at me

Try changing it to British English and listen to the snobby tone it has when it says recalculating.  I usually use GPS as a backup to a real map.  I learned the hard way when we were traveling in the motorhome that they tend to take you down alleys and small side streets that are not good for motorhomes.

I don't have a GPS. I thought I wanted one..but now I am not so sure. I think I will stick with the method of a map..and asking locals.
