You did the right thing and I'm glad you're seeing how so many are in your corner.

OFFLINE | Thanks for posting this Scott ! Bless Casey's little heart ... *tear* ... this is an incredible epidemic THAT MUST BE STOPPED !
I do not condone violence BUT there are times when, in self defense, there is no alternative to get the attention of the abuser(s).
I posted a comment in the annoyance thread a few days ago after reading some stuff about listening to kids when they cry out for help and dealing with the issue of bullying. I feel so incredibly strong about this ... my kids have been raised with compassion and acceptance of others. Made very aware from their earliest memories that we are unique individuals ... and to embrace differences. I can without hesitation say that they have been taught that involvement and or tolerance of that type of activity is unacceptable. My daughter has been the victim of some "mean girl" activities and on the giving end dealing out enough of her own in retaliation. She found out the hard way that that type of behavior will not be tolerated at school nor at home nor on the 'net.
Another reason it is so raw with me is that a family friend hanged himself in his own home about a month ago ... over the desperation he felt from daily bullying he received at school and not belonging. In November, it will be three years since my 18 yr old nephew took his own life over the feelings of desperation ... feeling like he did not belong, pressure and other things.
Please, please, please ... listen to our children ... and be part of the solution and not part of the problem.

OFFLINE | Things would have ended so differently if he broke that kids neck.
I don't disagree with him taking it into his own hands to stop it or slam it...
Just a shame when it has to come to the point kids have to deal with it alone.
Where were all the teachers and staff?
(I was never bullied as a kid or bullied anyone and if one of my friends started doing that I would have smacked my friend)

OFFLINE | Hey John ... yes, I know. From what I understand, the boy who had enough of the bullying (Casey) was suspended from school for the incident. I understand his suspension had to happen to send out a message to all students that any sort of violence is not allowed ... a no tolerance rule.
However, I would not necessarily be all that upset with my child if they took matters into their own hands. Looks to me like he'd had enough and needed to show the bully who punched him in the face that he just was not going to take it anymore ! I think he succeeded. Take your lumps for involving self in violence at school and then make a fresh start.
As far as where were the teachers/staff ? Probably busy breaking up some other bad behavior elsewhere. Sorry to say but I feel there is too much of that going on. Most teachers I know are complaining these days of how much of this they must be involved in and how it takes away from their quality teaching time.
I was never bullied either ... but like I said before have some experience with it. My youngest (16) and I watched a show the other night where actors where set up in bullying situations with other kids and the parents watched off-site. I remember Zack saying that he would have stepped in in defense of the kids that where being bullied, diffusing the situation by pointing out how uncool acting that way is and trying the make the kid who is being bullied feel more involved (and accepted) in the activity. He also said if any of his friends would do something like bullying, he'd have a talk with them akin to a smack upside the head (without the violence). I'm lucky he is an peaceful, mellow, artistic, musician sort.
P.S. I wish every kid who is victim of bullying had a sister like Casey has ... bless her heart, too !
