There is one thing that we all know as Christians; God has been very good to us. Even the Bible affirms that very truth: "The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works." Psalms 145:9

But there are two questions that need to be asked...how and why has God been good to us? Why did Almighty God decide to share Himself with sinful people?

How has God been good?

He provides for us. "And the Lord said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by." Exodus 33:21-22

This verse really emphasizes God's provision of physical and spiritual shelter. I am willing to guess that everyone reading this has some sort of roof over their head; a small log cabin roof to a large marble ceiling in a mansion. Regardless, we acknowledge that God has provided your home for you in refuge from nature. In the summer, your house provides nice air conditioning, and in the winter, you can plug in the heater. A closet can protect you from a tornado or a hurricane. Spiritually, God is the same way. He has provided Himself as shelter. In our Scripture, he puts His hand over us as shelter from attacks and trials.

He provides strength for every day, in the good and in the bad. "Sure goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life..." Psalms 23:6.

Not only does God provide for us in our trials, but He remembers to give us strength when we are on the mountain. Keep in mind that God is also the God of good times.

He gives us a way of escape from eternal Hell. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3:16

This is the ULTIMATE goodness. He sacrificed His very life for you and me. What more could God do to show us that He is a good Heavenly Father?

God promises a Heavenly home for His children. Revelation 21-22 sums up that promise. If, during your earthly life, you accepted Jesus Christ, you are guaranteed a place in Heaven with Him. What better promise could anyone make?

Let's answer the next question: Why has God been good to us. There are two answers to that...

Because He loves us (Jeremiah 31:3)

Because it shows that He is sovereign (Revelation 22:13)
