OFFLINE | if I want to define or describe what a genre is, I would naturally go for 'unit for classification/interepretation' and then bring Fowler's idea that it's expectations...
the thing is- I am taking it from what was said in class-- what footnote do I put here? Does it even need a footnote, or can I put is as a fact? |

 OFFLINE | Hi,
first of all, I would suggest giving a quote from the dictionary on the "dry" meaning of genre and then move on to talk about Fowler.
If you feel repeating something that was said in class appropriate, I suggest adding under the "works cited" list the words "class notes" you don't need to give a direct quote when inserting what Prof. Gomel had said in class. |

OFFLINE | so not putting what was summarized-in-class in a direct quote.. just mentioning in the "works cited"/bibliography section that class notes were used.
right? |
