Often Christians will use Genesis 2 to defend the position of gender complimentarity, and that it is the only acceptable form of marriage to God.  But is Genesis 2 a prescription, by God, for what is solely normative, or a description of what occured?

My argument is that Genesis describes how God intended to populate the earth, it is not a normative prescription for marriage.
