Ok, not to scare anyone or anything............but this is just some information that I want to put out there to all of us with regards to our boys and being sick........I have been told that one of the biggest epidemics during BC for the recruits is pnuemonia..(This is per my sons recruiting officer as well as some now Marines)...one of my friends has a son that is in BC at Paris Island and he is supposed to be doing the Crucible tomorrow but last Saturday he ended up going to Medical and he has pnuemonia......so as of right now not sure if he will be able to go forward with the Crucible tomorrow......Now her son had been feeling under the weather for about a week or so prior to last Saturday but didn't want to say anything to his DI's because he didn't want to appear weak or as if he was giving up......Which I can totaly understand and appreciate.........BUT....I think it is very important that we let our guys know in a letter that if they are feeling really worn down, achey, feverish, extrememly tired etc. that it is IMPERATIVE to let their DI's know!!!!!!! Marquis had pnuemonia just before he left for BC..(End of January~ wasn't fully recovered until mid of February)....it started out as the flu and turned into pnuemonia......and of course once you have had pnuemonia you are more susceptible to getting it again......The conditions that our guys are in right now is prime for weakening immune systems........they are out in the cold, up all hours, not enough sleep, not eatting like they were before, and working their asses off.......very easy for the body to get run down.......also easy to ignore it......Im in no way trying to scare anyone, or tell anyone what to do.....just offering some advice that maybe we should let our guys know if they feel bad to get checked out IMMEDIATELY vs. waiting for what could have started out as a simple cold to turn into something much worse!!!!!! I only post this as I care about ALL of our recruits in Plt. 2166 and don't want to see anyone unable to finish BC due to an illness that could have been prevented if caught early enough!!!!!!!! Best wishes to all of our Recruits in Plt. 2166.....KICK ASS BUT STAY HEALTHY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DITTO APRYL!!! I understand where you're coming from. Too many guys won't speak up and once they do it may be too late! I'm glad when Aaron caught a cold the first week in May, he went to medical and kicked it in the bud!! He had said so many were coughing due to the night air and such. Let's just pray they are sensible enough to seek help rather than keep silent. We don't want any of our guys to get pushed backed, so pray all of them stay healthy and all graduate together!   Oohrah 2166!!!!!

Exactly Brenda!!!!!!! That would be horrible!!!!!! Now I would like to think that Marquis would say something.....but there is this little voice in my head that says he might not......he would try his hardest to push through it........and seeing as he has already had pnuemonia so close to his departure date it worries me a little.......especialy with the conditions that they are in......there bodies are probably so worn down etc......so along with my QUESTIONAIRE :: I will also be sounding a bit "motherly" in his letter this morning.......lets hope he heeds my advice!!!!!!!!

There is all kinds of creeping crud going around down there.  We received a letter yesterday from a recruit we know that just went down and he said his entire Plt is 'coughing up green crap.'  I know my son was sick a few weeks ago, and knowing him, he would be one of those who pushes through it.  He hated missing out when he had to go to dental, so I know while they are at CP, he will push until he drops.  I'm just going to have to trust that Mama USMC will be on the lookout for those recruits who need medical attention but refuse to get it.  I would hate for any of the boys to not graduate with their company because they were too pigheaded to get some medical treatment.  I mean, antibiotics go a long way fast!

I know they had another Initial Drill the first Monday they were in CP, I'm thinking, Apryl, that was the one Marquis was referring to, but I did read on a forum that the Plt that won were allowed a phone call, I didn't receive a phone call nor did my son's gf, so I don't know what the heck is going on.  Hopefully, we'll get some clarification in our subsequent letters.

Well with regards to the Drill I thinkit was the swimming one that they won...per Marquis letter that Timmy decifered...::......and in todays letter he said that yet again they came in 2nd to Plt. 2163 for the PFT........He said he himslef did very well on PFT but as a Whole Platoon they came in 2nd......GRRRRRRRRRRR Man I dont know what they are feeding Plt. 2163....but pass it on own the line to Plt. 2166 PLEASE!!!!!!! ::.........

Egads, I'm a week off! Initial  PFT was last Saturday, the 21st? So Grass week was last week too? My son talked about it, but I thought they weren't qualifying until next week.  They're qualifying today?  The days are running into each other!!!

Karin they qualify tomorrow....tomorrow is FRIDAY!!!!!!!! ::......then they have their 8 Mile hump/hike on Saturday.....the begining of next week will be field week and then at the end of next week they start Table II.....they are supposed to be headed back to MCRD next Sunday but Marquis said since they won one  of the drills they actually get to stay at CP for another week....so they will also be at CP for TEAM WEEK/INTERIOR GUARD as well........They should be heading back to MCRD around June 12th........I hope this helps.....::....
