I was hoping to start a discussion on potential updates and recommendations for this great application (Sound Studio HD for iPad). Having purchased and used it for a week now, I am interested to see what other issues users are having with it which could potentially be ironed out in future releases. It would also be nice to know when new releases could be anticipated.
Overall I think the app is amazing and worth the $50 AUD I forked out for it but ...
I've noticed that it doesn't handle large sample libraries very well. It doesn't seem to support the reading of directories in the samples folder - only one large list of samples. This is problematic when you wish to store 200+ audio files on the device as excessive scrolling is then required.
Furthermore, some samples do not preview properly even though they are the exact format and length of other samples that do...
I share the opinion that there is a lack of documentation for the application outside the application itself. Is the application compatible with many other ipad apps - ie. wave editors etc?

Aurora Sound Studio
Hi Ben
I am really glad you are lovin the program, we are working on an update which should be submitted to Apple next week that will include amongst other things:
A record to MIDI facility this enable:
Export all layers into individual tracks in a MIDI File
All Note on and Note OFF
Volume and Pann for the track
Volume, Pan, Cutoff Frequency, Resonance Controller date will also be exported.
It will capture output of the sequencer and live performanced which can be retreived via ftp for use with external programs.
Also I will be adding the help files in the form of a PDF in the next week or so.
I will post as soon as the update is available.
Thanks

I have used many different music creation programs for the iPad so far (iElectribe, iSequence, Electrify too name a few...) and Aurora is clearly the most impressive of the bunch. I LOVE that I can share music directly from the device with other people. So far I have listened to a bunch of great pieces that have been uploaded, and I can see this community really taking off. I can't wait to input my own samples, but I do wish the library that came with the program had more sounds. Hopefully future updates will come with larger sound packs. I'm just breaking into advanced mode and I can tell that this is where the best aspects are going to be. I will post future comments as I gain more experience. Thank you, Aurora!

Hi, it´s me again...
i´ve started to use aurora in actual production now and i´m amazed how good it sounds (22khz brings out some really nice sounds sometimes).
what i would really love to see in an update would be this:
have an export to wav for each layer in a sequence. so if you would have a pattern you would press something like "export layers" and it would give you: layer1.wav, layer2.wav, layer3.wav etc. of just that one bar. so you wouldn´t have to do any cutting and matching in cubase anymore.
i think that would make the app so much more useful for a lot of people.
is it even possible to implement something like that?
well.. anyway... looking forward to the midi update and off to make some nice sequences
thanks,
alexander

Hi Alexander
The new MIDI export update should enable you to export both the complete track and the individual layers.
Thanks

hi tracy,
i just tried out the MIDI export and it works great! thank you for that! loving it so far. makes aurora sound studio at least 100% more useful to me.
what i would really like to see would be the same thing for audio. so if you enable it it would record the individual layers as individual audio files.
if that´s not possible it would be awesome if another button could be added to the "record to file" dialog that does this: "rec to file and immediatly start playing", so the resulting wave starts exactly at beat one. or is there any way i´m just not seeing to do that right now?
i really just want to have *.wav files that start exactly at beat one so i don´t have to do any cutting (which doesn´t really work that well) in cubase, when i import the waves
thank you so much again for this program! it´s my most used music software at the moment.

Hi Jay
There is a facility to download samples from the Aurora Sound Library and you may find some of our tutorial videos helpful as well. //www.youtube.com/user/4pockets

Hi Alexander
Good to here the feedback on the MIDI export…
As for the other issue, Aurora can already do this
1) Launch the Record To File Dialog
2) Tick the ‘Use Trigger Level’ checkbox.
3) Hit the ‘Rec’ button.
At this point a flashing GREEN square will appear around the grid telling you recording is ARMED. Now simply start the sequencer and the flashing GREEN cursor will turn RED to show recording has started.
Press the STOP button to end recording.
The ‘Use Trigger Level suspends recording until a specified audio trigger level is reached. You can modify this level from the ‘Record To File’ dialog.
Hope this helps

Hi,
thanks for the help!
much appreciated
i´ve been using the audio trigger exactly the way you describe. this works good enoug in most cases, too.
it just stops working when you don´t have sound at the beginning, which happens sometimes. then the recording starts somewhere in the middle, obviously.
but you are right. this method works for the most part.
thanks again,
alexander

hi all!
at the first look, i like the programm. at the second look i like it too, but few things i cant figure out. how to play one note over the length of a whole layer?
i´ve tried the sound itself (adsr), i tried automation (gate time). wy is it not the same like in other sequencer, have one trigger and chain other to get the hold-leghth of a note?
if i delete a automation on a layer. it keep staying at the last parameter. it has to be in the state befor my automation recording.
a music sequencer on a ipad has to have: audio copy/paste! i dont want to have my computer to comunicate with my other ipad music programms ( nanostudio, multitrack daw...)
thanks for listening, happy new year!

Hi Jan
The development for Aurora is far from dead, we have been working on a new product which is now complete which now leaves us free to go back to Aurora.
There is an update being developed as we speak which will bring some great new features to Aurora.
As soon as I can give you a date of when it will be available I will.
Thanks
