OFFLINE | Does anyone know of a good football coach on the market, 'cause Fresno State finally dumped Pat Hill? |

OFFLINE | Great ones are hard to come by. There are some that show promise though.
Jim Tressel coached the Ohio State Buckeyes to success for year. Got into a little trouble and was (unfairly imo) asked to resign.
I think Rick Neuheisel (UCLA) is available now. He might do well in the WAC.
Mike Stoops may also do well in the WAC, but I dunno.
Houston Nutt used to coach at Arkansas and did pretty well there. He's won 4 out of 5 bowls and is a likely candidate to be the next coach at Memphis.
Of course, if you are looking at maybe hiring a current assistant who wants to be a HC, here are some good ones:
Gus Malzahn (Auburn). Took the tigers to the NC last year and is one of the highest paid and most valued assistants around.
Kevin Steel. Current Clemson Defensive coordinator. One of the most highly paid in the nation. Used to be a d-coordinator at Alabama and buddy he was a good-un. We were disappointed to lose him to Clemson.
John Chavis. D-coordinator at LSU. Nuff said. Also one of the highest paid.
Jim McElwain is our current offensive coordinator and we got him from Fresno State. He's been a Godsend for us, totally revamping our anemic offense and is a fine assistant. I think he's ready to be a HC, but I'd hate to lose him.
Kirby Smart is our Defensive coordinator and his defense is among the top 2 or 3 nationwide every year. Again, one of the highest paid and he's earned every penny.
Tommy Bowden used to coach the Clemson Tigers. He may be ready to coach again.
Jeff Bower used to coach Southern Miss and their teams were known as giant killers.
These are just a partial list of decent coaches to check out. |

OFFLINE | Hopefully we can pick up one of those, I think most of our decent assistant coaches have gradually left over the years and who we have now leaves something to be desired. We need some good leadership and good recruiting to lead us during move into Mountain West next season. We've got some good talent in a couple key positions (ie Derrik Carr, who is every bit as good if not better than his Heisman candidate of an older brother was, don't believe me check out some of the strikes he threw against CSU San Deigo last weekend), we just need some good leadership and progressive play calling. |

OFFLINE | I read in our local sports yesterday that Jim McElwayne took his name out of consideration for the Memphis job and hopes to be interviewed for the Fresno State HC job. Hate to see him go...which is ironic because that's exactly what my Fresno State friends at Scout.com were telling me when he left State to come to Bama. Lol! |

It'd be a nice homecoming. |
