One day I took all the ingredients my mother uses to make her tortilla masa & as she poured, scooped or shook them out in the bowl, I caught them & measured them out to the closest measurement for a family friend who wanted a recipe...This is what turned out...

6C "Gold Medal" bleached enriched flour...that's what she always uses...many like blue ribbon...
1 Heaping TSP salt
1 1/3 TSP baking powder
Mix top 3 ingredients...
Add 3/4C Crisco & knead
Add 2 1/2C hot H²O & knead

Let masa rest in bowl w/ a LIGHT coat of
Crisco over it & cover w/ a towel for 10-15 mins
Knead into small balls, cover w/ a towel, roll out (she uses a paint
free "cut" from a broomstick :-o lol ) 1 at a time on a lightly floured
surface & cook over a well seasoned comal (:
THE ART COMES FROM PRACTICE, PRACTICE & MORE PRACTICE!
GOOD LUCK & SWEET EATS!!

Hi Marie!!!  Thanks for measuring your Mom's ingredients!!!  I know that making tortillas is an art!  I have my dough made, but have a couple of questions . . . how high do you cook your tortillas, and do you flip them more than once during the cooking process?  Thanks so much!  Carri

Okay, so these tortillas were amazing!  My husband raved about them and he's not a "tortilla guy".  Thanks again for sharing the recipe!
