'flipping' is probably the most effective technique in a battle verse.. basically youre just referencing what your opponent said and turning it back against them..

eg..

what this does is in the readers/listeners minds, it cancels out the first guys hit, and makes yours seem stronger .. if your ever in a battle and you think "oh **** that one line just killed me".. you just need to find a clever flip and even if its not the best thing ever said and their original lne still burnt yours.. yours is the lst thing thats said so it discredits their punch while leaving you looking like you got one up on em.. until they flip it back at ya..
