Who are your favorite producers and why?

Here's a list, and I pretty much like them all because of the same reason, which I will explain after I list them out.

Pete Rock
DJ Premier
Rza
MF Doom
Madlib
Black Milk
Apollo Brown
Flying Lotus
Nujabes
Fat Jon
9th Wonder

I like all of them because they all apply the same philosophies in their music:

Melody, melody, melody
Harmony
Rhythmic drums that are soulful. On thing that I like to hear are real drums. Sometimes claps and stuff are fine, but I like for the majority to have drums that are specifically tailored to the beat. These guys do that.
They put thought into whatever they create

Those are the top three things I listen for in songs.

I like flair, but it's never a deal-breaker for me.

As long as producers stick to those principles the song will make itself, really.

  Used to be heavy on the FlyLo tip a while back but right now it's Samon Kawamura, Kev Brown, Oddisee, KuroiOto, Muhsinah, Knxwledge, BMB, and Fat Jon.
  
  Their styles are pretty different from each other but I can still take a thought or feeling and pick out joints from these artists that match a certain feel, while at the same time the songs may sound completely different.

  As far as influence goes, Samon for his groove and creativity, Kev Brown for his dope bass lines and his classic style, KuroiOto for his power and samples, Muhsinah for her creativity and samples, Knxwledge for the way he masters and his creativity, BMB is just ridiculous, Fat Jon for the feeling behind his tracks and his jazzy classic style, two of my absolute favourite joints of all time were done by Fat Jon. What makes these guys so great is that whatever I like from one artist I can easily find in any of the other ones.
