treat a sore throat?
My 8 year old has a severe sore throat, not wanting to swallow, her temp only got up to 101.
Finally after a really cold (real) fruit smoothie...she has perked up. I know I need to continue to treat

Responses so far:
The best thing would be Bees Aid, if you have that. Just fantastic for sore throats, especially those that are sore, not from swelling, but from friction of swallowing, or burning mucus.
But as far as essential oils, gargling with some tea tree oil in water might help. If you've got some grapefruit seed extract to add to the mix, that would be good. Just a couple of drops of each in 8oz.
You've got a lot of good stuff going there for the sore throat. This is a good time to limit the sweet foods (including fruits) and grains to keep her
blood sugar steady, so her immune system can fight this off quickly. Make her some homemade chicken soup and give her lots of broth made from the carcass. That will sooth the inflammation and boost her immunity, too. (Adding your sea salt and raw garlic will, too--and it'll taste good!)
One other trick, which is not alternative at all, but one that a pediatrician told my mom to do on me when I had the most horrible strep throat I'd ever had when a girl: Take an enema bag (all sterilized, of course!) and fill with warm water and crushed aspirin. Have your daughter lean over the bathtub, hook the bag onto the shower curtain (or hold it high), and let a steady stream of warm, aspirin-water bathe the back of her throat. Don't let her swallow it, but just keep her mouth open and let it drain out into the tub. I remember that felt SO good! Maybe a healthy option to that would be to use warm water and sea salt instead. Or to just gargle with warm salt water. That tastes worse than the ocean, but it definitely helps it feel better and likely does some killing of germs in the process.
