It has been awhile since I have looked at the NC Constitution... perhaps it is time to realize that he entire basis for the State of NC is declared to be completely subservient to the Federal body, as opposed to a sovereign entity.

Sec. 5. Allegiance to the United States.
"Every citizen of this State owes paramount allegiance to the Constitution and government of the United States, and no law or ordinance of the State in contravention or subversion thereof can have any binding force."

Compare this with other state charters and see what you find. Might surprise you.

So, according to the very documents that form the State of NC essentially makes it completely pliant to whatever Federal laws and, arguably, the enforcement used for those laws. It would be against the Constitution of the State to defend its citizens from any Federal infringement of rights or abuses of power... etc.

And that ones primary allegiance is to the Federal government (which makes one first and foremost subject to foreign rule) and not first subject to the State of one's birth.

How is this according to the traditions of North Carolinians? Answer... It's not.

THIS is what NC is about...

• We had the FIRST British colony (1585): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roanoke_Colony

• We had the first native born colonist (Virginia Dare): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virginia_Dare

• We had the first locale to declare independence from Britain (Mecklenburg County): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mecklenburg_Declaration_of_Independence

• And we had our Tea Parties too (eg, Edenton, 1774): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edenton_Tea_Party

• We had the first public university (UNC Chapel Hill): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_North_Carolina_at_Chapel_Hill

This is the type of tradition North Carolina has... and our motto is "Esse Quam Videri," meaning "To Be Rather Than To Seem."

NC needs to BE, as oppose to SEEM.
