Only gave it a couple of good listens. I have to say 75 percent of the album is really good, it reminds me of what they used to be in the early 2000's with albums like Monumension or Below the Lights (My favorite). It is more atmospheric than Vertebrae except for a couple of songs (The remaining 25%) that kinda drag the whole thing toward the end. Songs are carefully crafted, solidly coordinated with a lot of interesting riffs that are less melodic than the ones found in previous albums like Ruun or Isa. Overall, it's a thumb up, could have been two had they kept the same spirit through the whole thing instead of going back, near the end, to what made Vertebrae a little boring for me. It is definitively heavier, I really like the variation in the vocals as well.

So would you say then it's worthy of a purchase? I mean, Ruun and Isa were total letdowns for me and quite honestly I tend to see that period of Enslaved as what Cold Lake was to Celtic Frost, as absurd as that sounds.. but hey, they were meant to sound like a 'viking' band after all, not a bunch of college stoners wearing Weezer glasses, just sayin'

This album was a GREAT surprise for me.

One of the reasons I liked it so much, definitely.

I agree, the last couple of songs were not as good to me as the majority of the first part of the album, but I didn't hate them.

I liked it, mostly. But I feel like the more progressive parts don't really fit with the rest of the album at times... if that makes any sense.

As far as I'm concerned the best part of this release is that they will be touring to support it

Rob, dl it first. I might buy it if I find it at a good price.
Morgan, I get what you're saying, I think it's mainly because the album is a step back from the progressive sound they've had so far.

I do need to listen to it more. I'm also spinning the new melechesh, drudkh and the crown. I also need to get the new dimmu, vulture industries and whatever else I have missed from this year.

I've been falling behind on new releases. Especially Melechesh and Drudkh I'd love to hear.

I hear the new Drudkh btw, is supposed to incorporate a lot of that shoe-gaze 'dreaminess' that's been up BM's crap cutter bug as of late.. so I read in a review recently.

As for Enslaved.. I have a funny feeling it's most likely one of those 'types' of 'cutting edge' (insert trademark here, yadda, yadda...) albums that would have seen the top 5 (of all time) list in Metal Maniacs just because it's as 'bold' as "Gorguts" RAHH! or something.. if that makes ANY sense.. but overall, because it just manages to **** tease the old school kvltists while at the same time finding at as 'loophole' to avoid paying royalties to fuckin' Smashing Pumpkins and YES....... and dream theatre (lol), etc. etc., god I so need to take it easy on the booze....

damn, I am starting to sound like "Sean"..
