Editorial Internship at Estatics

Estatics is a student-run magazine dealing with technical and professional issues. Founded at the Jiann-Ping Hsu College of public health, Georgia Southern University, Estatics conveys statistics in an inviting way. It covers subjects in disciplines that use statistics: public health, wellbeing, research etc. In Estatics, we make sense of numbers!

Duties:

Editorial intern, a non-paid position, will:

• Proofread copy for grammatical or spelling errors and factual inconsistencies
• Following author's approval, may rewrite manuscript to better fit Estatics’ editorial policy
• Discuss (with authors) possible changes to the copy
• Assist in choosing artwork to accompany articles
• Organize page layouts
• Corresponds with authors regarding articles that may be published
• Perform any other editorial duty that may be assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

English, Communication, Journalism, or Writing and Linguistics major
Strong writing skills evidenced by composition courses and other intensive writing courses. A course in technical and professional writing is a plus.
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign, or Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop is a plus, but not required. However, intern should be willing to learn these programs.

Credit Hours:

This is an unpaid internship; however, the selected candidate may receive up to three (3) hours of credit (WRIT 4790) in each semester of the internship. Work schedule will be coordinated with the internship supervisor.
