OFFLINE | did you see the speech obama gave at the memorial for the shooting victims? now, i'm not going to criticize the prez. i think he gave it his best shot, but it was just bizarre seeing the way the crowd responded. i think they might've chosen the wrong venue or something. there were a lot of college students there, and apparently they were all geeked up to see the president, because there was just a lot of odd cheers, woops, and shouting at awkward moments. reallly, it seemed more like a campaign stop at times. anyone else notice this? it was really just weird to me. |

OFFLINE | and it was particularly strange when the prez was reading off some of the names of the dead victims, and was greeted with applause. |

I didn't watch it because the Federal representatives who were present do everything but inspire me.
But then, I'm already with the victims. And it's most definitely not about me.
It's about the affected families, it's about an affected community, it's about the affects on a nation. And I hope those who do look towards the current administration were inspired to get it together and to stop using it as a much-maligned, equally-unconscionable opportunity to further victimize others. And also to quit looking at this as an opportunity to score political points.
The best way to see what people are made of is to see how they handle adversity.
Congresswoman Giffords is showing her determination and what she's made of under the most cruel of conditions. She's made of some good stuff.
I'm not so sure of others who're showing their stuff ... who are doing the opposite ... who are determined to use the conditions to be cruel.

OFFLINE | one republican proposal which i find just as ludicrous as those brought forth by democrats in the last week, comes from pete king (ny). he has proposed a law making it illegal to carry a gun within 1000ft of a government official, of which, there are around 2 million. would this law have saved the victims of this shooting? no. but it would have made a criminal out of one of the people who ultimately subdued loughner, who was packing heat at the time. and how exactly would you enforce this, and better yet, how would a person know whether or not they were within 3 football fields of a government official? just more reactionary alarmism. |

(Sound of head banging on the floor)
OK.
So if this wizenheimer wants this law, I propose it be amended to require all politicians wear tin foil hats. That way, we can see them coming and can run for the hills.
(Whether packing or not.)
Further, in the interest of fairness and equality, I propose another amendment that requires politicians to stay 1,000 feet away from my pocketbook.
However, if they encroach into my space and I'm packing, the original law will become null and void.
(Thinking this could be good for the deficit.)
