Top 10 April Fool's Jokes on the Web Today
(I actually saw this one on the national news)
1) The crowning achievement of this year’s April Fool’s Day Internet pranks comes from Google’s “Gmail Motion,” the interactive way to send e-mails while looking totally awesome at the same time. To send your message, please mime out the action of licking a stamp and placing it on the envelope.
2) Were you startled to learn that cat pictures were funny even a century ago? Well, duh. YouTube went old school for April Fool’s Day by featuring the “Top Viral Pictures of 1911.” The site also offers a feature that allows users to watch commercial-free videos silently, for an authentic, old-timey experience.
3) And you thought the federal government couldn’t take a joke. The White House website authorized the public to access the nuclear launch codes for April Fool’s Day. Go wild!
4) Ever notice that when you try to Google, “Where do tigers live,” Google fills it in with “Where does Justin Bieber live?” Well Google’s hiring “autocompleters” for April Fool’s Day, you weirdo.
5) BREAKING NEWS! While it’s true that Virgin Mobile billionaire Richard Branson has more money than God, it’s not true that he made a sizable purchase in space. Virgin.com said that Branson purchased Pluto and wishes to reinstate it as a planet.
6) We all know the most legitimate font out there is Comic Sans. Duh. Google makes it even better when users search the word “Comic Sans” by making the entire webpage switch over to the font that says, “I want you to take me seriously, but not too seriously.”
7) Today, the U.S. Military declared the Stetson cowboy hat the official new hat for all soldiers’ uniforms. It’s about to get real “Walker Texas Ranger” up in here.
8) Under its “People You May Know” setting, LinkedIn offers up connections like Ernest Hemingway, Albert Einstein and Sherlock Holmes. Too bad your LinkedIn shall remain devoid of awesome connections and you can only wish you knew these people.
9) Kodak’s “Relationshiffft Automated Person Purge” guarantees to remove what’s his or her face from all your pictures forever after the relationship goes incredibly sour. Not a bad idea for real life. Although, you know you would still have the memories…excuse us.
10) Crap! We can’t believe we missed last night’s newest episode of “The X-Files.” But wait just a minute – Hulu.com’s version of the website for April Fool’s Day offers re-runs of “The X-Files,” “News Radio” and “The Dana Carvey Show” in all their 1990s, dial-up Internet glory.
