its looking like the online forum has gone the way of the dodo, in favor of drive-by social networking tactics. at the risk of sounding like an old fogey, it's kind of a sad commentary on society to me. not this specifically, but it's just one symptom of a larger movement toward superficiality, that's been going on for decades now. but i think it's at the cost of context. it seems to me like the continued sheeple-ization of the populace.

I beg to differ,I know of several really good forums(outside social media),and groups here in FB. I like the old style Facebook groups cause you have more freedoms with it. BTW,if we are complaining about Myspace's forums/groups it is a meh. the FB wal,and twitter despite limits on words has the same abilities ,and is quicker responses than the old groups...and is safer(getting rid of trolls is easier, and no need for a mod if it is your thread)

i get what you're saying. i get the conveniences of just throwing something up on your wall, but that's kind of the point. we are so much on "fast-forward" as a society, that we don't even want to go through the trouble of going into a group. and the only reason to really go to a group, is to devote some of your time, to discuss issues that matter to you. to think about the arguments being made, and to take the time to formulate a thoughtful response.

i guess the analogy of visiting friends could be made. if all of a sudden, instead of really visiting friends or family, and sitting down to a meal, or just hanging out, you one day decide that this takes too much time, and instead you just start leaving letters in their mailbox, as opposed to actually getting out and seeing them. i'm just lamenting something i'm going to miss, whenever it really does die in here....like when you, dennis, stop posting lol.

Yeah it's like a single serving friend style of talking we're getting with wall posts. I like going into a group and reading and discussing actual topics in a free flowing yet structured way. Wall posts are fine and dandy for what they are but lack depth - itls like a quite chat as opposed to a conversation. I should get stuck into dreamweaver more and make an online forum lol

Yes, it's almost as thought attention spans have gotten too short for anything of substance.  I like a good conversation!  I miss that with my online friends!

Sophia from UM2 created a My Space refugee group that works ok.

I like this quote function though.

Thanks for pointing this out.

I quit MySpace, cause I was getting spammed daily, and the only reason I was on there was for the forum. Hopefully this takes off!

All my rowdy friends have settled down. Sounds like you will be too soon.
So busy lately will not be around too much. Glad to see everyone though.

I quit myspace too.  The only reason I went was to talk with you guys.  Otherwise it was getting too slow, and I could never get help from the techs there.
