OFFLINE | so i heard about a high school wrestler that forfeited a match rather than facing a girl, and it got me to thinking. with the awkwardness of pubescence and the social structures surrounding high school, is it fair to put boys in such a position? or should we do away with separating sports by sex, and simply allow the best athletes to compete? i think, however, that this would likely give girls even less of a chance to participate in sports. i also haven't been able to find an answer as to whether or not boys are allowed to compete in girls' leagues, in the off chance one would want to.
or, do you think that since there are male and female leagues (with girls having more opportunities than they used to), that we should keep girls competing against girls, and boys competing against boys? after all, we don't find cross-sex competition in professional or olympic sports.
thoughts? |

OFFLINE | I have to agree with the young man.... my son wrestled in high school, and because he was rather small he wrestled young ladies. He hated it, When you raise your son to treat a woman a certain way, wrestling goes against the grain.
IMHO contact sports should be segragated by sex, especially in high school when kids are so impressionable.
Call me a prude.
I watched my girlfriend's grandson wrestle a couple of weeks ago.... he had to wrestle a girl. You could tell he was holding back.
I also know a young lady who wrestled. She is now an MP in the Army.
Nothing against girls wrestling, just don't think they should be wrestling boys. |

OFFLINE | Maybe they should have 3 divisions. Boys only, girls only, and co-ed. Then the kids could sign up for the one they prefer. Of course that might get expensive, but maybe they could charge admission for parents jello wrestling. |

OFFLINE | "Dude, you're a effin WOOSE! Losing to a girl, man, turn in your mancard and get yourself a **** card, you effin woose!"
I can see it now,,, As if kids don't have major self-esteem issues already.
My problem would have been major tenting! I mean, at c'mon, me at a young age wrestling with a hot chick? I'd be nuttin with ever other hold! Heaven forbid I have her in a scissor headlock
Anywho, we've been complaining long enough already about teenage pregnancies. And now we want to put young boys and girls on a floor matt drybumping each other? meh,,, |

OFFLINE | There have been women playing football at Division I colleges and I think there has been one or two in the arena versions. And I'm pretty sure there was a female pitcher that was showing some promise in baseball's minor leagues. It might not be too many years when one will break through to the big time games. There are some pretty good female hockey players...but they might start their own league.
Most states don't allow males to play on female teams. They are concerned that they don't have as many female sporting possibilities to start. There are some places that have mixed sex golf and tennis teams. There are a few that would allow it as long as there is not a direct comparison. In most cases that pretty much means field hockey. There are a couple hundred male field hockey players, mainly in California and Pennsylvania. In many cases it's the parents that don't like it, most of the students think it's actually a good thing:

OFFLINE | When I wrestled in jr, high, some of the holds I used on my opponent, if done to a girl, would have had me arrested for sexual assault. The way I was raised a gentleman never touched a woman in that manner, so I too would have refused to wrestle a girl.
In my opinion, there are some sports that are more conducive to co-ed competition in jr. and sr. high school, e.g. track & field, basketball, baseball, volleyball, ect... But there are others that are not conducive to co-ed competition due to the physical contact from either physically hitting the opponent with one's body or physical contact from grappling, e.g. wrestling, rugby, football, lacrosse, soccer, ect...
Adult competition is a matter of choice. If a woman wants to join a male team or compete with men in a sport then go for it. Tryout for a spot on the team or enter the competition against men that is fine. But please, if you honestly try and are honestly evaluated and you don't make the team or lose the competition, don't start screaming discrimination. I have seen it happen over and over again. That is one reason I like Danaka Patrick, she trained, got sponsors, competed, and when she did not make the cut or came in the back of the pack, she was not sitting there in front of the cameras yelling discrimination but she sat there saying that next time she will work harder and do better. |

I think this is kinda already done in some fashion though. And from the clips I've seen, there seemed to be a gender role feel to them. |

Seriously, the schools asked for title IX, they need to keep the sexes separate. I have never hit a woman, My father didn't raise me that way......but if she stepped onto the mat and squared off against me in karate, then it's on like donkey-kong baby! |

yup. seen it. heard it. many times.
and to Keith, there was a fermale hockey league at one time.
I have no problem with non-contact sports. I have no problem with adults doing what they want. But teens need to be kept seperate.
BTW, Girl Scouts is for girls. Boy Scouts is for boys. |
