And this is the guy so many people apparently want for president? Not only is he a particularly hateful individual, but also apparently lacks anything approaching a backbone. Chris Wallace, a lightweight by all accounts, tore Santorum a new one! Just imagine what Obama would do to him in a debate! |

OFFLINE | Just two points, but first I would like to remind you that I really don't give a **** about sexual preference. Especially in terms of being able to serve in the military.
Anyway
#1 Santorum is somewhat right. Sexual relations really doesn't have a place in tUSA's military. PDA (public display of affection) is a big no-no. Sexual relations between men and women who serve together is many times punishable(not saying that relations don't happen....and quite often....you just try to keep a heavy lid on it). Are we gonna be given the leeway to treat gays/lesbians equally or are they gonna complain about rights violations when they get in trouble for either PDA or sexual relations with someone they serve with.
#2 The close quarters living has always been the issue at the core of the argument. Let's be honest, most of us ain't got no argument with being friends and living in close quarters with homosexuals, but really......do most of us want to be in a community shower with gays.......or catch them pillaging each other in the barracks??? Nah, I think most of us, even though we try to become better people, still have our little hangups.
One of the things that burn my ass is that every time we see one of these social equality issues, after all is said and done.....it still ain't equal.....just skewed the other way. |

While I agree with you that sexuality doesn't belong in the military, where professionalism is essential, I think that completely mis-characterizes the debate. DADT wasn't about banning gays from behaving in a sexual manner on base, it was about keeping homosexuals from serving. If a marine was found with a picture of him holding his girls hand it wouldn't have been a big deal, however if such a photo emerged of a male marine holding his boyfriend's hand he could have been dishonorably discharged. PDA is a different issue all together, one on which I think we're of consensus. |
