The Federal Bureau of Investigation is now involved in the investigation into the murder of a young woman who was beaten to death near Lake Brownwood in May.
The Brown County Sheriff's Office confirmed the FBI is assisting their detectives nearly one week after Brown County Sheriff George Caldwell told KTAB and KRBC there is still not enough evidence to arrest a suspect in connection to the brutal death of Rhonda "Chantay" Blankinship, 25.
Sheriff Caldwell was expecting DNA evidence taken from the scene of the crime to be returned to his office last week, but he would not comment on the results and refused to even confirm or deny if the results were received as expected.
Blankinship was found beaten to death "approximately five miles from her residence" near Lake Brownwood on May 15, 2016, according to the Brown County Sheriff's Office.
She was reported missing two days before her death, and her picture was circulated by thousands on social media.
The suspect responsible for her murder is still at large and unidentified. Three associations on Lake Brownwood are coming together with the Heart of Texas Crimestoppers to offer a $5,000 reward for any information leading to this suspect's whereabouts and subsequent arrest.
All tips will have to be submitted through Crimestoppers to be eligible for the cash reward. Anyone with a tip can call (800)222-8477 or text "HotTips" along with the information to 274637.
