OFFLINE | Congressional Budget Office (CBO) Director Doug Elmendorf confirmed Thursday during a House Budget Committee hearing that President Barack Obama’s health care law will reduce the workforce by 800,000 by 2021 because some individuals will no longer have to work in order to receive health insurance, Politico reported Thursday.
“t’s been argued…that the new health care law will create jobs and increase labor force participation,” said House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. “But if I recall from your analysis, it was quite the opposite. Is that not the case?”
“Yes,” replied Elmendorf.
Elmendorf agreed with Republican California Rep. John Campbell’s claim that the health care law would reduce employment by 800,000.
“Yes,” Elmendorf said. “The way I would put it is that we do estimate, as you said, that…employment will be about 160 million by the end of the decade. Half a percent of that is 800,000.”
“More bad news for American families,” was how Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan’s office described the report in a release.
“Since day one Republicans have opposed Obamacare for a simple reason: it would destroy jobs. Minority Leader Pelosi, Leader Reid and others said we were wrong. Guess not," said John Murray, deputy chief of staff for Majority Leader Eric Cantor.

OFFLINE | The CBO did not find that the healthcare insurance law would kill jobs. It found that "the legislation, on net, will reduce the amount of labor used in the economy by a small amount—roughly half a percent—primarily by reducing the amount of labor that workers choose to supply." It won't be the case that there will be fewer jobs available. It's simply that fewer people will choose to work.
In other words, people who are only working because they need employer-sponsored health insurance will no longer do so. And they're not going on the public dole People who have the means not to work full-time and will be free to make employment decisions not based upon an individual health insurance market that prices them out. Some workers will also choose to retire early because they now have the ability to buy their own health insurance.

................ Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming... "WOO HOO what a ride!"

OFFLINE | you're right, but the word "kill" didn't appear in the OP. that would just be violence inspiring rhetoric anyway
but look at it this way. that's 800,000 less taxpayers. |
