OFFLINE | Why canning supplies? This way if you hunt, fish, grow your own garden, have a friend with a garden or purchase meat, produce and fruit in bulk, you can preserve everything. So that no matter what happens (hurricane, tornado, snow storm, fire storm, ect..) you wont be worried about getting to the store to feed your family. You will have it on hand already. Most people who hear canning think of jars of jams, jellies, fruits and vegetables. But there is more you can do. You can also make your own sauces (spaghetti, pizza, salsa, ect…) soups, chili, can your own meat (deer, elk, fish, hamburger, bacon, foul, ect...). You can also can butter and margarine that doesn't require refrigeration.
Items you will need are : Jars, Lids, Rings and other Canning Supplies and Canners (both water bath and pressure canner).
The jars will come in sizes from half pint to gallon. Most common size you will need are the pint and quart size. The jars will also come in regular and wide mouth. Regular mouth are typically jams, jellies and most fruit and vegetables. I like the wide mouth for soups, stews, chili and the like.
Typical canning tools
Canners both water bath and pressure canner. THere are many different types of canners shown are just one type of each. But please make sure if you buy one at a garage sale or get one from Freecycle that they rack is included.
