Granted I'm one of the few people here as well that doesn't care much for them but I have to admit Cannibal Corpse did manage to shock quite a number of people out there during a time when it wasn't considered too easy to shock people. Having said that, the first time I saw the cover for Butchered at Birth, heard the music within as well as read the lyrics to each song while listening along, for a little while I did feel like I needed to get baptized and become a born again christian, lol.. for I felt like I had endured some child **** video or something. That's how nasty, raw, and filthy their music was in the beginning. Nowadays though, to me they sound like the equivalent of a 'hip' new Rob Zombie horror movie franchise remake. Predictable enough to where you've heard/seen it all before and therefore you're far too desensitized to it to even remember any specific details.

Agreed.  **** like Cannibal Corpse and almost every goregrind band is such a gimmick.  They are trying so hard to push the envelope with lyrics about eating **** and **** kids that it is getting ridiculous.  The shock factor is long gone.

I'm not gonna lie.. I am still a sucker for the occasional Japanese 'guinea pig' fest that strolls along, just for guilty nostalgia purposes.. but overall, I readily admit that a lot of it should ONLY be 'liked' for that specific reason alone, which doesn't say a whole lot... but just reassures you there's still some 'activity' goin' on despite whatever Grungeian trend comes along to 'troll' it or whatever... lol

That's why it was funny as hell when the dude from Decrepit Birth got sent to jail. He actually did things that are sung about and his band threw him under the bus.

Lol, the band was disgusted by his actions.  Pfft, can't take Decrepit Birth seriously anymore.

since these guys were my intro to death metal, i still dig the first 4 albums with Barnes. but seriously, i like Six Feet Under better, his vocals are much better and some songs were actually about something besides gore crap.

That's one reason I can't get into goregrind. It's like they took all the elements from death metal and made them so extreme that it sucks.

He said on Warpath that he was trying to sing where people could understand him, and have lyrics that were more realistic. A few of the songs on that album are about weed (obviously, lol).

It's a saying, Rob. Meaning they totally disowned him.

I got into thrash first.  That lasted a short time after I heard Obituary for the first time.  After that all I listened to was death metal but never got into Cannibal Corpse.  I listened to "I Cum Blood" for a laugh from time to time but that's about it.  I couldn't take the band seriously.

Cannibal Corpse are the AC/DC of Death metal. I enjoy them on occasion.
