If you are looking to use bleach as your water purification method - during emergencies - make sure you use regular chlorine bleach not the scented ones e.g. lemon, spring fresh, mountain breeze, fresh meadow, clean linen.

The ratio is:

2 drops of regular (not scented) bleach per quart of water
8 drops of regular (not scented) bleach per gallon of water
1/2 teaspoon regular (not scented) bleach per five gallons of water
If water is cloudy, double the recommended dosages of bleach
