Well first of all I have to say that is awesome to have a page and a forum like this to interact with other parents during this time!!!! I am a very PROUD mother of a USMC Recruit that left for Boot Camp on April 11th..Plt. 2166..I will admitt it has been a rough going for the first 12 days....The lack of contact after being so very close for 18 years definately takes a toll on a families heart....Although I completely understand about the Marine Corps needing these recruits to stay focused and have little to no distractions from the civilian world during this time it does not make it any easier....I know that my son is in great hands and is doing what he needs to do to "EARN" THE TITLE OF A UNITED STATES MARINE!!!!~
My son was in the DEP for 10 months and was so excited for Boot Camp....for him the days seemed to drag by but for the rest of the family the days flew by...The hardest thing for me was saying goodnight to him the night before he left...I know that may sound so silly, but knowing in my heart that would be the last time I got to say "goodnight" to my son for 13 weeks just tore me up...The 2nd hardest thing for me was expecting "The Call" during receiving and it never coming....I would say that I literally did not sleep for 3 days anticipating that call...to finally realize that he either got the BROKEN PHONE or opted not to call....As a mother, regardless of where he was going there was going to be some comfort in knowing that he had "arrived" in San Diego safely....I have since realized and come to terms with "no news is good news" is really want is important and I really DON'T want to hear from him unless it is in letter form....I have yet to receive my first letter but am anxiously awaiting it!!!
I am such a proud Mom and feel so honored and blessed that our son has chosen such an honorable path to travel down...Congratulations to all of the parents, siblings and friends who have a USMC Recruit in their lives!!! You should all be so proud and honored that you raised a young man or woman that is willing to do all that they can for our country and to become a better person themselves!!!!! Until we meet again........Ooorraahh!!!!~

Yes, he is!  I can't wait.  I'm sure by then we are all going to know each other a little better.
We found out yesterday our son is the prayer leader for the Catholics in his platoon.  He's very thankful now he was confirmed!

Happy Easter Plt 2166!
