Why the concept of AB as an universal acceptor and O as an universal donor are discarded, why now AB can't accept blood from anyone else except AB?

Dont know much about this, my father is a doctor and I asked him same question long ago, he answered that "When any other blood group except the real one is donated to the patient, the physical condition at the time may be normal, but it can cause reaction and damage to the host later on, it may be after a week, a month, one year, ten year and so on. hope ur question is answered
