Just spend 16 days cycling in Tibet and Nepal. Recharging the Rider50 was an issue at times as we were mostly camping.
Any good suggestions for a re-charge system (5+ days) as at times I was unable to use Rider50 as the battery was flat!
Otherwise system worked fine. Had some discrepancies on altitude with users of other systems - differnence was not constant.

Hi, Werner,

It must be a great trip in Tibet and Nepal!

Our suggestion is that you can buy a portable solar charger with a battery inside and USB outlet. Some of them come with different outlets suitable for cell phones as well.  When you ride, you can charge the solar charger and then use it to charge Rider 50 later on.  Hope this helps!

When looking at thie option I was advised by a battery specialist shop that the portable solar charger are just not up to the job. Do you have any brands that are up to the job:
Alternatively what would be great would be a battery which can be replaced - just as I did with the camera - by having multiple charged batteries with me I was able to overcome this issue for the camera.
and YES - there is some great cycling in Nepal and Tibet - can highly recommend.

There are external batteries available that recharge the Apple iPad - which need 5V and 2.1A, which is approximately 10W of power.
Normal USB ports on computers and such are specified to 5V Output and 500mA.

I do have a battery-pack for my iPhone but didn't try it with my Rider 50 because I didn't feel the need so far.
I'll check asap and let you know.

If it works with that a battery that could recharge even the iPad (i.e. which is much more powerful) should be able to recharge the Rider a few times as well. Plus, if I got you right, during the trip you referred to you had the chance to recharge every now and then, so recharging such a bigger external battery could really be s.th. cool to solve the problem.

Greets,

Andy

Hi Guys,

I've seen these battery packs on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Trent-ultra-pack-5000mAh-Universal/dp/B003Y58CVC/ref=wl_it_dp_o_npd?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1WOUQLVY6K056&colid=2FJP7MX705MOO

Should I watch out for anything to ensure that it doesn't knacker my 50?

Cheers in advance for helping me out of my ignorance!
