The Department of Writing and Linguistics seeks a qualified candidate for a two-semester internship. The Conference Assistant Coordinator will help the Conference Planning Committees organize, market, and support their respective conferences during the upcoming academic year (see conference descriptions below). Responsibilities of this intern may include, but will not be limited to, the following:
1. Attend conference planning meetings and take notes;
2. Assist as needed in the promotion of the conference;
3. Support the conference planning committees with planning and organizational logistics;
4. Communicate with conference presenters and vendors via telephone and e-mail;
5. Coordinate conference volunteers;
6. Other tasks as assigned by conference planning committees.
The Student Success in Writing Conference
The Student Success in Writing Conference is designed to promote the success of students in writing courses at the secondary and postsecondary levels. The conference also seeks to establish and maintain dialogue between college and high school educators. We are committed to offering practical workshops and theoretical presentations on topics related to the teaching and craft of writing. This year’s conference will take place Friday, February 3, 2012 in Savannah, Georgia.
International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference
This conference will focus on the ways in which WAC programs and professionals may need to expand their efforts in response to new economic, institutional, and demographic challenges and how these initiatives can lead the way for our institutions to be self-sustaining and proactive in meeting the changing needs of our students and the communities of which we are a part. This year’s conference will take place June 7-9th 2012 in Savannah, Georgia.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be a highly motivated individual with exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Applicants should have excellent organizational skills and must be able to work well independently and as part of the organizing committee.
Credit Hours:
This is an unpaid internship; however, the selected candidate may receive up to three (3) hours of credit (WRIT 4790) in each semester of the internship. The selected candidate should be prepared to commit 5 hours a week to the position. Schedule is flexible, and must be agreed upon by the internship supervisor.
