 OFFLINE | NEW SURVEY RESULTS
OK, we get it: you really, really love your smartphone. But is your affection for the device out of control? Smartphones are increasingly ubiquitous; during the fourth quarter of 2010, a staggering 100.9 million of the mobile wonders shipped—far more than the 92.1 million PC units that shipped over the same time period, according to one industry estimate. But the numbers don't tell the entire story—the one that describes how these phones are beginning to dominate our lives. A notable portion of smart-phone users cop to some form of addiction to these tech toys, according to a recent survey from Crowd Science's JustAsk! program. Whether texting, mapping or even using the phone for talking, many consumers are finding it difficult to consider existence without one. More than 800 people took part in the survey.
21% admit that they're addicted to their smartphones
18% say their smartphone is a reflection of who they are
57% say they would fish their mobile device out of a public toilet if they dropped it in one
89% say it's unacceptable to break up via a text message
77% say they send text messages daily
50% say they use social networking or get their news daily from their smartphones
17% use an iPhone
14% use an Android
12% use Blackberries
02% use Windows Mobile
42% still use a regular cell phone
3 out of 4 Android users are men, making the Droid the definitive 'guy phone'
