How do you feel about people casually stopping by your home unannounced?

Generally speaking, this irritates me because I’m typically quite busy. And given today’s world of hypertech, I think texting, calling, emailing, or IM’ing is fairly simple to do.

Personally, it depends on who it is.  With health issues, my house isn't always immaculate, and that bothers me when SOME people stop over unannounced. But family........I usually don't mind.

Definitely depends on who it is. Why do you ask?

If you've got major plans set for the day with someone, and an out-of-town relative stops in unannounced, who do you spend your time with? This happened to my mom and it kinda irritated me. Me, personally, I'd still spent the day with the person I had already made plans with. That sudden drop in stuff just doesn't work for me.

I've never had to deal with the pop-ins as an adult.  When I lived in the same apartment steadily, and most of my family was near, I still had employment where my day or days off varied...and also whether I was working early mornings or late nights.  And with several volunteer positions...let's just say there was a very high probability that I would not be there for a pop-in.

Now I'm usually more than a thousand miles from any of my relatives...a little bit far for a quick stop.  Plans are usually made well in advance.  Like I'm stopping by my mother's and one of my sisters place for a bit May 4-6...and it's a trip that begins at 11:30 at night and ends at 9:30 in the morning a couple of time zones away.  They've known about it for awhile..and I'm staying in a hotel too.

As far as friends go, there's usually two situations.  We get to learn about each other for usually just a short time, so most of the time if someone adds themselves its like a more the merrier situation.  Now there are times when we find out where someone is not going to be a good choice for a certain activity..like if a couple of us are going out for a drink or two and someone pops up that doesn't handle the booze very well...by that time we usually know a thing or two that that person doesn't enjoy...so we lie to them.  In a few months we might not see them ever again anyways...but sometimes we meet up again some other time and place.

(((Lori))) ... I've always been of the opinion that if a person comes to visit, they come to visit me and not to critique my house.  If they are the type to judge over a less than immaculate house, I doubt they are in my life ... and the heck with them.

Personally I am more of a planner ... and do not like surprises ... please call ahead, thanks !

I LOVE pleasant surprises....doesn't matter if you call, text, or just drop in.  What matters most is that you come see me.

****WARNING*****

You may have to help me fold clean laundry to make room to sit down or I may plop a shovel in your hand and invite
you to work in the yard with me.

If you arrive at my house unannounced, you may be greeted with loud barking and will be at risk of being bitten.

What the dog will do is another subject entirely.
