OFFLINE | (AP) - The Alabama House has moved an Arizona-style bill to crackdown on illegal immigration to within one step of final passage.
The version approved by the House had been worked out by a conference committee. It now goes back to the Senate.
The House sponsor, Republican Rep. Micky Hammon of Decatur, said the compromise restores language in his original bill calling for employers to use a federal system called E-Verify to determine if new employees are legally in the United States.
The bill also makes it a crime to transport or harbor illegal immigrants. It prevents cities from passing laws that would protect illegal immigrants in their cities.
So no Sanctuary cities in Bama. And go aftr the employers. This is how it oughta work. |

OFFLINE | I think everify is a good idea, but if they are smart enough to steal a real SS# I don't know how it will help. |

OFFLINE | Hopefully the Supreme Court ruling put an end to all that mistreatment. I forsee a lot of the border states now adopting some sort of bill mimicking the AZ law. What I especially like is that it goes after the employers (rather than kicking in doors at night and rounding up the immigrants) and it prohibits sanctualry cities. I still have a har time believing our Fed Justice Dept is allowing sanctualry cities to exist when it is againt Federal law! Another reason Eric Holder should be fired imo. |

OFFLINE | Turns out our bill may wind up as the toughest in the nation. House passed it almost unanimously. Apparently it will go after the employers of illegals.
Allows police officers to detain drivers who have committed a traffic violation if there is "reasonable suspicion" that they are in the state illegally.
Requires that all businesses verify the legal status of their employees. Any business that is cited more than once for hiring an undocumented worker may have their license revoked.
Plus no college for illegals either.

OFFLINE | i think the whole thing about how you can't "knowingly" give a ride to an illegal immigrant, might catch a snag in the courts. |

OFFLINE | Main thing about this bill as far as I can tell is that it requires businesses and schools to actually make sure an applicant is a citizen or is t least in this county legally. ACLU is gonna challenge it of course. We knew that. I'm hopeful that the courts will use the Supreme Court ruling as a precident and let this bill (now a law) stand. Or gov signed the bill yesterday. |
